Cooking Cards

CookingCards encourages kids to take an active role in the kitchen while making the process easier and more enjoyable for parents. By turning ingredients into playful prompts, we transform cooking into an educational and fun experience for the whole family.

Task

In this project, our task was to apply the Design Sprint methodology to develop a functional prototype within 5 days. Initially, we could choose from various predefined topics, and we decided on the theme Shared Cooking Experience.

Project Development

Research & Concept Development

We started with the topic Shared Cooking Experiences and identified key pain points: cooking with kids often requires constant supervision, explanations, and safety checks. Our goal was to design a solution that would help children engage independently while also supporting parents.

Interaction & Structure

Our concept revolves around a set of ingredient cards, each representing a food item—such as strawberries or bananas. During a recipe, when prompted to add or prepare an ingredient, the child can find the matching card and scan it with the app to continue. This hands-on approach reinforces learning and keeps children engaged.

Additionally, users can scan cards based on the ingredients they currently have at home. The app then suggests suitable recipes, encouraging spontaneity and creativity in the kitchen.

User Testing & Iteration

We conducted usability tests with children and parents at various stages of the sprint. Feedback from these sessions led to key changes in layout, language, and visual clarity to better support our young target audience.

Visual Design & Prototyping

We used Figma to design the app interface and Illustrator for the card visuals. The prototype was tested as an interactive digital mockup with sample recipe flows and card interactions. Video editing was done with Adobe Premiere Pro to document and present our final concept.
